CARIMBÓ (Brasil) – Grade 3+
El carimbó es un ritmo y danza tradicional de la región amazónica de Brasil, particularmente del norte del estado de Pará. Surgido en el siglo XVII, el género reúne raíces indígenas, africanas y europeas, enriquecidas por intercambios musicales provenientes del Caribe a través del comercio y la navegación por el río Amazonas. Inicialmente caracterizado por cantos y percusiones, el carimbó incorporó con el tiempo instrumentos eléctricos y secciones de vientos, ampliando su sonoridad. Pinduca, conocido como el “Rey del Carimbó”, fue una figura clave en su desarrollo y difusión. Carimbó toma como referencia la vitalidad rítmica y la energía colorida de la danza para construir una textura bandística brillante y una dirección musical que evoca la exuberancia y la magia natural del Amazonas.
Carimbó is a traditional rhythm and dance from the Brazilian Amazon region, particularly from the northern state of Pará. Emerging in the seventeenth century, the genre blends Indigenous, African, and European roots, enriched by musical exchanges from the Caribbean through trade and navigation along the Amazon River. Initially characterized by vocal singing and percussion, carimbó later incorporated electric instruments and wind sections, expanding its sonic palette. Pinduca, widely known as the “King of Carimbó,” played a key role in the genre’s development and popularization. Carimbó draws on the rhythmic vitality and colorful energy of this dance to create a bright band texture and a musical flow that evokes the exuberance and natural magic of the great Amazon and its river.
