El merengue, considerado el baile nacional de la República Dominicana, es uno de los géneros más representativos de la música popular latinoamericana. Surgido a finales del siglo XIX el merengue animó inicialmente las celebraciones del espacio público con conjuntos típicos, para luego consolidarse en los salones de baile interpretado por orquestas populares. Figuras como Johnny Ventura, Los Hermanos Rosario, Wilfrido Vargas y Juan Luis Guerra han sido clave en su desarrollo y proyección internacional. Full Merengue traslada ese espíritu festivo al lenguaje de la banda sinfónica: el protagonismo de los saxofones, la energía brillante del brass y una base rítmica que combina patrones tradicionales con el merengue maco crean una pieza vibrante que invita a la banda a entrar, simbólicamente, en la pista de baile caribeña.
Merengue, considered the national dance of the Dominican Republic, is one of the most representative genres of Latin American popular music. Emerging in the late nineteenth century, merengue first animated public celebrations performed by traditional ensembles, and later became a staple of ballroom dancing through popular orchestras. Artists such as Johnny Ventura, Los Hermanos Rosario, Wilfrido Vargas, and Juan Luis Guerra have played a key role in its development and international expansion. Full Merengue brings this festive spirit to the language of the concert band. The prominent role of the saxophones, the bright energy of the brass, and a rhythmic structure that blends traditional patterns with merengue maco create a vibrant piece that invites the band onto the Caribbean dance floor.
