DON REGGAETON (Puerto Rico) – Grade 2
El reggaetón es un género musical popular que surgió en el Caribe a finales del siglo XX, con fuertes raíces en Puerto Rico y múltiples influencias del reggae, el dancehall, el hip-hop, la soca y otras músicas afrocaribeñas. Inicialmente difundido en discotecas y contextos urbanos juveniles, el género se consolidó como una poderosa expresión de identidad cultural, logrando una proyección global dentro de la industria musical. Don Reggaeton recrea algunos rasgos del estilo: la alternancia entre frases de carácter recitativo y melodías pop repetitivas, sostenidas sobre su inconfundible base rítmica y una progresión armónica característica. La obra propone una ibridación entre el lenguaje del reggaetón y la sonoridad sinfónica de la banda, celebrando la energía, vitalidad y presencia del sonido urbano latinoamericano contemporáneo.
Reggaeton is a popular music genre that emerged in the Caribbean in the late twentieth century, with strong roots in Puerto Rico and influences from reggae, dancehall, hip-hop, soca, and other Afro-Caribbean musical traditions. Initially spread through nightclubs and urban youth cultures, the genre soon became a powerful expression of cultural identity and achieved global recognition within the music industry. Don Reggaeton recreates several characteristic features of the style: the alternation between recitative-like phrases and repetitive pop melodies, supported by its unmistakable rhythmic groove and a distinctive harmonic progression. The work proposes a fusion between the language of reggaeton and the symphonic sound of the concert band, celebrating the energy, vitality, and presence of contemporary Latin American urban music.
